War. It's a funny thing. Many nations seem to think of it as a way out of their relationship problems. This reminds me of quarrelsome couples filing for divorce the minute they begin arguing. The first World War was a conflict between the Central and Allied powers. The result? Ten million dead, twenty-one million wounded, some seventy-seven million missing or imprisoned. That was just an estimation.
What about the second World War? This time, it was the Axis powers against the Allied forces. The casualty count? Eight million dead, nineteen million five hundred and thirty six thousand wounded.
You must be wondering, why are you telling me this?
Well, I thought you might like to know the numbers of dead and wounded of the previous wars before the war in Iraq begins. True, I know that, as Iraq is a small country, if the USA is indeed going to attack, the death toll would not be as high, but it would be high enough.
Did you know that when the UN inspector came back from his tour of duty of Iraq, he reported that he had found no evidence of weapons of mass destruction except one missile that had only exceeded the UN limit? Of course, there is always the possibility that those weapons may be hidden inside underground bunkers, or that the inspector is corrupted. However, that is not my point. What I'm trying to point out to you is the fact that America, and the Bush Administration, is going into military action without solid evidence. Wouldn't it be a terrible consequence if thousands of civilians as well as soldiers died because of one man's mistake?
Of course, America cannot back down now. It is a world superpower, and I hardly think it would step down from its decision. If it did, it would certainly cause great international embarrasment as well as cast doubts over Bush's ability to rule without endangering the lives of others.
I think that America is acting too rashly. I don't see any point in causing so much bloodshed and disruption of ordinary lives for the sake of killing one man.
I don't see why they can't simply continue negotiations. I know it is probably very hard for both sides to agree and stay calm, but isn't it better than having the death count rise with each carpet bombing 'session' from the US?
The war itself will cost around US$1 trillion. The US will need tanks, planes, warcraft, as will Iraq. Why are they wasting all this money on a war? Why don't they, seeing as America is supposed to be 'a beacon of light' and 'the land of freedom', donate this money to a charity or to a third world country, where it can be put to better use than mindless bloodshed?
Don't you think it's better to improve the lives of others, who are more needy than you, than to literally execute thousands of innocent civilains who may have no idea as to what they are fighting for?
