I'm sick and tired of this.
Sick and tired of listening to a bunch of bloviating talking TV heads everytime I turn the bloody TV on.
Everytime.
Every, single time I turn the TV on, it's always tuned in to BBC. Every goddammned time I turn the television on. All there is is some journalist out there, risking his life to bring us the goddamned news. Out there, would be in Iraq, or someplace near.
Gods, I'm so fucking tired of all this news. It's always the same.
Bomb whizzes overhead.
"Bringing you the latest news from Iraq."
"What is the civilian count this time?"
Sound of gunfire somewhere in the distance.
"Oh. It's hard to say, but analysts estimate around five hundred or more dead. The hospitals are packed to the brim now, they're running low on food and medicine, as well as water."
"How are the Iraqis taking the coalition forces entering?"
"Not too badly. Of course, the way wasn't exactly strewn with flowers. Not everyone was pleased."
Journalist ducks as an explosion shakes the ground.
"Number of coalition forces dead?"
"We aren't too sure. The Al-Jazeera says that they captured on entire unit, but the US claim that no one was injured in the attack."
Gods. I know we should all be proud of the journalists and reporters who go out there and risk their lives to bring home the news. But, it's sickening in a way, and do you know why?
No reporter ever goes out there and reports all the grisly remains, of how bodies are blasted apart. No reporter does that. That's why it's easy to be unfeeling about this war. The victims aren't personalized. They're just this mother and that husband lying in the wreckage. This man and that woman. No names, no background. Nothing. We don't even know if they'll be given proper burial according to their religion or thrown unceremoniously into a hole. No reporter goes around talking about the refugees or giving some of them names. To the world, they're just a huge mass of living bodies moving toward this border or that border, causing problems for this country or seeking asylum in that one. This is what I detest. For the coalition forces, at least we know their names, sometimes maybe even their background. But, do you see footage of Iraqis? No. That's why it's so easy to sway your opinion on things.
Maybe there are too many Iraqis, but what really gets me is how we don't see Iraqi soldiers mourning their dead, we don't see the mujahideen, the freedom fighters burying their dead. Nothing. It's so easy to visualise the Iraqis as hard, unfeeling or helpless people. TV spreads powerful messages, which is why I'm so goddamned sick of it.
Television. Everytime I turn on the TV, if it's not 'Live' coverage on the war, advertising for it like it's some video game, then it's another Sars update.
I hate the television.
I'm so goddamned sick of the fucking thing.
