Given yourself a new image,
a new name,
doing it the wrong way.
you
let vanity creep into your mind.
allowed adverts to claim their territory,
warped and twisted,
a product of the new age
of modelling agencies and slimming creams.
you were
so much more than that
hollowed out,
reeking of decay,
you
have lost your i.d.
somewhere on the p.i.e
when you were catching a ride in a Good Samitarian's car
slipped into a new identity
doesn't quite fit, m'dear
could have been
so much more
an animal lies dead on the road,
the victim of a hit-and-run.
