MESSAGE TO THE BOARD 05/06:

(I know I don't usually do this, but there's always a first time, isn't there?)

You must never, ever forget that each and everyone of you is special in some way or another, and that you all have special talents.

Sounds cliched, doesn't it?

Well, it's true. You know, there's a saying that if some thing is cliched there's most likely a grain of truth in it.

Alright, enough rambling already.

Anyway, I know there will be times when you'll look at your bolero and think: what the heck am I doing here? why should I even bother?

Trust me, there will always be those times. Sometimes, it all gets boring, mundane, anal, and you wonder if it's worth your time, worth all the white hairs (ignore those lucky twits who don't get white hairs. Haha.), worth all the effort, all the planning...

And trust me, it is. Everything you put into the Board will be worth it in the end.

There will be times when you feel like giving up, because honestly, it's not an easy job to do, especially when it concerns your friends and the ENTIRE school population (Indeed, a rather disgruntled/extremely energetic lot, depending on which level you look at.).

But so long as you continue believing in what you do, and so long as you don't lose faith, you'll be able to weather all the storms that are thrown your way.

And, of course, you musn't ever think that you're alone. If you do, just come to school at 7.15am on the dot (Though you really shouldn't, because you'd be considered 'late'. Should really be there before 7.05am. Heh.), and take a look at the courtyard.

You know what you should see?

Unless the entire Board absents itself (after Investiture, understandable. Haha.), you should see dots and small groups of white and blue moving through the crowds.

No, they aren't a new mutation of dengue fever or bacteria...

They're the Prefects. The people who make up the Board.

See, you'll never, ever be alone. Even if you shut your eyes, you should still be able to hear obnoxious, infectious laughter (i.e. Camille), if not, then someone or another telling you to go for duty.(Hmm. Used to be my 'job.)

Haha. Sorry to say, you can never be alone in the Board.

And yes, duty gets boring sometimes. But unfortunately, it is an inescapable part of being a Prefect. But you know what? It's not all bad when you do it with friends, and it gets even better if you believe that what you are doing will contribute to improvement of the school. (This does happen, even if it can't really be seen.)

I've been on the Board for all my years in SC, and I can say, definitely, with all my heart, that it has become a second home to me, as has SC. I have learnt so much from the Board, and gained so many experiences and wonderful, beautiful (funny/silly/skewed) memories and perspectives from it.

This Board is really amazing, and it has many, many amazing people on it (Teachers included). Someone whom I really respect alot; who has taught me so much, is Mr. Ang. This year especially; and I really admire him for the way he just makes so much sense, and makes you feel silly for crying over nothing. (Haha.) Then there's EXCO. Seven fantastically, amazing, beautiful people who have made such huge impacts on my life; I will definitely cherish those memories, and if Time is kind, we will remain friends throughout our lives... what you learn from the Board you will take with you for the rest of your life, and never forget it. (Yeah, like Lyn's silly jokes, Mich and Lyn's apparent innocence in everything concerning dirty jokes, silly nicknames for different people - Eunice aka Twig/Pig...comforting each other, learning about strange quirks of various people...listening to the 'beautiful' singing of various people, i.e. Lyn, Clara, Van, Sharm...the list goes on...)

So you see? There's a wealth of experiences to be gained from being on the Board, just don't forget to bring some ear plugs to protect your ear drums from various people bursting into song on your left and someone else screaming in happiness on your right.(Haha.)

You people are great. There's nothing more I can say, really. You can do alot together, think: IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING. Together, you can achieve so much, I know you guys can.

So. We expect a MIND-BLOWING, DAZZLING, BREATHTAKING Investiture from you guys next year!

PARTING SHOTS:

1. YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE. Yes, we will be haunting you and watching you even when you think we aren't. (Haha.) Just remember, there will always be FIFTY-SEVEN other Prefects (yes, those blue and white dots.) behind you.

2. BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU DO. Do what is right, and you won't ever go wrong.

3. To quote Jo-Joy, Head Prefect of Board 02/03: "...to give back to SC what she has given me." Being a prefect is a service to the school; it is also a way of repaying SC, giving back to SC and thanking everyone who has had a hand in moulding you.

4. HAVE FUN.

Lastly, be a prefect in not just uniform, but in heart as well. It will make your job easier, trust me.

-END MESSAGE-

(This was something like what I wanted to say on Monday. But of course, we all decided to simulate the arrival of the Flood instead, so I couldn't really say all that; too 'busy' crying.)
