Today
a streetlamp went off.
Quietly, and without fanfare.
At my desk,
I sit and wonder
what is happening under
the cover
of darkness?
Princes dancing with their Cinderellas
perhaps
Elves in the company of Dwarves. (Men?)
Maybe
the woodcutter will find his children today
or
Rapunzel snip off
each
golden
lock
for love...
I peer out of the window.
No, it is just a lizard scuttling
over the whitewash wall.

First poem written in more than a year. I do believe my grasp of the English language is slipping; or perhaps my muse has gone on a leave of absence.
