Class finished late today, and we trudged home in the warm darkness. Yes, do not laugh, the weather has been fickle again, unable to choose between crisp autumn and balmy summer. As a result, we sometimes get a little of both.

Tonight I decided to put aside the scavenger and give in to small luxuries - we munched pittas and chicken in a restaurant, catching the sauce as it dripped off the bread.

Outside a deserted convenience store a man asks us repeatedly to spare a pound. We ignore him, and walk faster. As we walk on, he rounds on another passer-by - 'father, spare me a pound?'.

The moon is different here. The waxing gibbous hangs low, low in the sky. a half eaten fruit. She accompanies us, wreathed in light, as we crest another, and another hill. I strain to capture her in my mind's eye, to print her image into my memory.

Some days, I feel like an explorer, like I should be capturing small samples of everything, to share with you.

Today, in a blip of a breather, I slid into the back seat of the back beat, and watched the trains chug by.
